WordPress and FileZilla users beware! Theres a new malware doing the rounds that injects code into to your WP files. Not the easiest to move or detect however there is an excellent guide here on how to do so: http://www.stopthehacker.com/2011/11/07/nl-ai-packed-malware/.

The only difference for me was that code was also injected into revisions-js.php which you may want to check if you can’t find the wp_inc/upd.php file.

Being Dad

0

Well, I’m a dad now. With that comes great responsibility and unconditional love for my new born. At the time of this post my “new born” is nearly 11 months! Fatherhood has answered one of the great questions in life that has always eluded me, the meaning/point of life? Well for me it is now to look after my daughter and do the best job I can in bringing her up. Simple.

Anyway, here is my pride and joy in full glory:Soft play Lilly

Orlando Resources

Planning a trip? Here’s some useful links for anyone thinking about a trip to Orlando:

Booking the holiday:

Some websites to book your dream holiday.

Virgin Holidays

Travel City Direct

Thomson

Flights Only:

British Airways – Not always the cheapest but look out for their sale and sign up to the executive club for those airmiles.

Expedia – also hotels.

Tickets:

Attraction Tickets Direct - Good for different offers.

And of course Disney and Universal directly – You can also book hotels here.

Highly Recommended

If I can recommend only one website then it has to the The Dibb, UK’s biggest and best Disney World forum with a really warm and friendly community spirit. There are great trip reports from users and I also like the food reviews.

Orlando Theme Parks

The Theme Parks

Walt Disney World Resort is the world’s largest and most visited tourist destination, covering a 47-square-mile area and encompassing four theme parks, two water parks, 24 on-site themed hotels (soon to be 25 with an additional value hotel), and thats only two thirds of whats on offer here. Theres everything from roller coasters to golf and  Nascar Training to fishing. Theres not much they haven’t thought of and if they haven’t I’m sure they’re probably working on it right now.

The Magic Kingdom is the park I thought I’d like the least, I had a stereo typical view of it being just for kids and really wasn’t all that interested in going. Well has my opinion changed now! It’s now mandatory that this is the first and last park we do when arriving in Orlando, if anything I think it just confirms we’re back and puts a smile on our face. Its just amazing how Disney manage to lure you in to become a sucker for all things Disney. Favourite ride here is a toss up between Big Thunder Railroad Mountain and Splash Mountain, both equally huge in the fun factor stakes!

The other parks in “the World” are Epcot, Hollywood Studios (previously MGM Studios) and the Animal Kingdom. These are all great parks with loads of must-do’s and should not be ignored! There are also two huge water parks, Typhoon lagoon which has the worlds largest wave making machine and also offers surfing classes in the morning before the park opens. The second, Blizzard Beach’s highlight has to be Summit Plummet, a near vertical water slide where you reach around 60MPH in the drop to earth!

As well as Disney there’s also Universal who have two parks, Universal Studios and Islands Of Adventure as well as City Walk which houses the worlds largest Hard Rock Cafe (I use the worlds largest/biggest/tallest a lot when talking about Orlando!) and many other eating establishments and entertainment. Universal Studios must-do’s are The Mummy, Simpsons, The Hulk, Jaws and “Rip Ride Rocket”.

For folk that want to do everything then you can try squeeze in Busch Gardens – a ZOO that’s also a theme park with extreme rides! Shakira is probably the scariest as it stops at the top before it sends you over the edge to a vertical drop. This is a little off the beaten track and roughly a 1hr 30mins drive from Orlando down the I4.

Orlando Food

The Food

Most people would have you believe the US is just burgers and junk food and I if you want that then yes there is plenty of it in supply. There is however more and more a high quality fine dinning experience to be found, especially in Orlando and you would be surprised to know that some of the finest are owned and run by Disney. I visited two of their more expensive offerings, the California Grill at the top of the Contemporary Resort and the Hollywood Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios.
On the 15th floor of the Contemporary Resort or “on top of the world” chef Clifford Pleau continually reinvents his unique seasonal menus, creating divine dishes; add impeccable service and spectacular views of the nightly fireworks display over the Magic Kingdom and the result is truly great dining. Dinning for two and having three courses each you can expect to pay around $130 including tip.

This is also home of the burger and fast food so its comes as no surprise that there is far more choice of this type of food than what we’re used to here in the UK. They have the usual McDonalds, Burger King, KFC and Subways, but they also have at least another three times that of well known chains. Wendys for example probably focus more on quality than most whereas Sonic, a drive in only restaurant, offers real value along with Taco Bell which has value meals for $2, yes I said $2 (£1.50). If anyone has ever watched Food Inc then it can be quite a worrying thought eating food in America, I’m not trying to scare anyone but rather advising to avoid the really cheap places. If you’ve got to try one then I recommend Wendys, high quality produce and very tasty burgers and fries!

Orlando Florida (Part 1)

Ok, I admit it, I absolutely love Orlando Florida! Why? It has some of the finest Hotels and Restaurants anywhere in the world. It has the largest concentration of fun anywhere on earth in the shape of seven theme parks and four water parks. It has five massive shopping malls. It has an average daily high temperate (for the year) of 83º and on average the sun shines for 70% of every day light hour of every day. It has the stunning beaches and warm water on the Gulf Coast and the slightly cooler but still as beautiful beaches on the Atlantic Coast. The people are extremely friendly, warm and kind hearted for the most part and driving is a pleasure not a chore.

Negatives? The cost of the flight.
So apart from all the obvious, why do I love it so much? I’ve only ever been twice and never traveled anywhere else in continental Europe, am I missing something? Is there anywhere else in Europe that can provide all of the above in one place? If so tell me and I can save myself some money. On average for two adults it costs around £5000 for a two week holiday to do Orlando. Thats £1100 for flights, £1000-£1500 for accommodation, £200 for car hire, £450 for two sets of Disney World tickets, £350 for two sets of tickets for Universal and Seaworld parks and then at least £1500 spending money for eating out, gas/travel, parking fees, overpriced food and drinks in the parks and general souvenirs. If you plan to go on a shopping spree you’ll need another £500 each or so on top of that.

Is it worth it? If your idea of a holiday is relaxing by the beach not doing much else then its a definite no. If your idea of a holiday is to try new things and have lots and lots of fun in the sun with amazing food and a great shopping experience to boot then most likely you’ll love Orlando.

WordPress 3.0

0

Its official – WordPress 3.0 is here! I’ve just upgraded to the latest and greatest and praying that all my plugins still work. Been working on a commercial project recently and hope to have it live soon – will demonstrate how wordpress is more than just a blogging CMS tool for sure.

Among the biggest changes in WordPress 3.0 is the addition of multisite capability, allowing users to deploy a single WordPress installation across multiple sites, though there are some limitations. A WordPress 3.0 installation also has far greater control of navigation naming, taking it beyond a basic blogging platform and bringing it more in step with a traditional content management system.

According to Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), WordPress.com is the 12th most visited site in the world, with 120 million unique visitors in April.

More proof if required that wordpress is a serious contender to the dotnetnuke and joomla’s of this world.

One of my favourite websites to pass the time is People of Walmart, a satirical look at the “normal” American folk who visit Walmart in the USA. It really is the land of the free! Check it out here: http://www.peopleofwalmart.com
